Give Back

Our mission includes giving back to the community!

Median Projects

Much more than picking up trash

  • We initiated a new median project in collaboration with Green Valley Council.
  • GVG has landscaped and maintains all eleven medians on South Abrego from Esperanza to Continental.
  • We sponsor a median on La Canada in support of Median Green.
  • Created a landscape design, obtaining Pima County approval, purchased and planted plants (and hand watered for two years to get the plants established.)
  • This project team has 29 active volunteers.

Donate Fresh Grown Food

We share the abundance!

  • Plots may be assigned to winter-residents at Desert Meadows Park, during their absence in the summer, the plot is maintained by volunteers and produce is donated to the food bank
  • 3500 pounds of fresh produce are donated per year!

Programs for Kids

Introducing children to the techniques of Southwest gardening
and the virtues of nature conservation.

  • Children’s nature workshops at Ogden
  • Rio Rico project – Wellness Garden
    • will consist of seventeen different gardens separated by ADA accessible pathways. Created by the students in the agriculture class/FFA.
  • Continental School District – GVG volunteers help with plans to reopen the greenhouse, and advice on their raised bed gardens
  • Sahuarita School District – At Copperview Elementary we have helped them create raised bed gardens in the courtyard (using community grant money) and beds located beyond the playground. They’ve planted vegetables for the classrooms, onions to sell to parents, and will be growing pumpkins in the fall.

Plant Rescue

Reduce Recycle Reuse…and RESCUE!

  • We welcome the opportunity to rescue unwanted plants from your property as one of our community services
  • Plants are relocated into one of our gardens or are sold at the self-serve nursery located at Desert Meadows Park
    • Over 75% of the plants the volunteers planted at Desert Meadows Park have come from residential rescue
  • Unwanted garden tools, lawn furniture and pots are also accepted as part of our plant rescue service ~ some get used at Desert Meadows Park, but most are sold at the self-serve nursery

“Green Valley Gardeners have helped for at least 8 years. They have given us knowledge on how to set up a garden, water lines, and donations. They have helped with all aspects of the garden program.  We couldn’t have done this program without Green Valley Gardeners.”
